Bifacial PV Solar Panels (Modules)

The Couillard Solar Foundation sells bifacial solar panels for two reasons:

  1. Bifacial solar panels are more cost effective than monofacial panels. Bifacial modules are priced by the wattage capacity on the front of the panel but produce additional power from the back, increasing the amount of power they can produce by 5-25% per module. That means more potential power from the same size array.
  2. The solar market is moving in the direction of bifacial panels. ITRPV (the International Technology Roadmap for Photovoltaic) predicts that the market share of bifacials will increase by at least 35% by 2030.

  Product Features

  • Up to 25% more power generated per panel
  • CSF only sells California Energy Commission (CEC) listed products
  • Bifacial solar panels provide excellent low light performance – producing earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon
  • Well suited for ground mount or canopy applications

The Couillard Solar Foundation currently has a variety of panel options. Please contact us for product availability and specifications.

The sale of bifacial solar panels is one source of funding for our grant programs. All net proceeds from the sale of our modules are used to fund the Solar for Good and Solar on Schools grant programs.

Buying solar panels from CSF helps us make solar arrays more affordable for Wisconsin nonprofits.

How Bifacial Solar Panels Work

Bifacial solar panels have solar cells sandwiched between two layers. Usually there is glass on the top and either glass or a clear film on the back.

The bifacial panel accepts light from the front, but also takes in albedo (reflected light) bouncing off surrounding surfaces from the back, allowing the panel to produce up to 25% more power.

Albedo is the reason bifacial panels not only produce more power than monofacial panels, but also why they work well in low light situations such as snowy or overcast days. Bifacial panels are very well suited to locations above the 40th parallel, which has more indirect light than locations further south.
